Thy way, not mine, O Lord

** This tune was written for these words, to serve as background music during a scene in a dramatic presentation at Lee Abbey about the calling of Abraham and Sarah.

Thy-way-not-mine-O-LOrd

Thy way not mine O Lord.midi

Abraham and Sarah, living in retirement by the Great Oak of Mamre, have just heard that she is to give birth to a son.  I chose Bonar’s text to express their response to this surprising news.  The music is intended to evoke an image of three travellers approaching on horseback across the PRAIRIE,  to whom Abraham will offer hospitality. On reflection, these were not just travellers,  but angels representing God’s vocational presence.
