O Love, O Love, O fearless Love

* This hymn-song was composed to be part of a Lenten sermon for St Anne’s Calmore, near Southampton.

In verse 2 ‘… people kill the thing they love’  comes from Oscar Wilde: ‘for each man kills the thing he loves’ (Ballad of Reading Gaol 1897).

The origins of the tune CARELESS LOVE are obscure, but W.C.Handy (1873-1958) copyrighted it when he wrote his lyric ‘Loveless Love’.
